How to Remove MDM Management from Your Apple Device

Mobile Device Management (MDM) is a protocol that allows organizations like businesses or schools to manage, secure, and configure Apple devices remotely.

Method 1: Removal via Settings (Self-Service)

If the MDM profile was installed manually and is not "locked" by the administrator, you can usually remove it yourself in just a few taps.

For iPhone or iPad

  1. Open Settings > General.

  2. Scroll down and tap VPN & Device Management (or Profiles & Device Management on older versions).

  3. Under the "Mobile Device Management" header, tap on the management profile.

  4. Tap Remove Management.

  5. Enter your device passcode if prompted.

For Mac

  1. Click the Apple Menu () > System Settings (or System Preferences).

  2. Navigate to Privacy & Security > Profiles (or just Profiles on older macOS).

  3. Select the MDM profile you want to remove.

  4. Click the Minus (–) button at the bottom of the list.

  5. Confirm your choice by entering your Mac’s admin password.

Method 2: Remove in Apple Business

If the "Remove Management" button is missing, the profile is likely non-removable by the end user. This happens when a device is enrolled via the Apple Business (formerly Apple Business Manager) or Apple School Manager (ASM).

  1. Login to Apple Business by going to: https://business.apple.com

  2. Select "Devices" in the top menu ribbon.

  3. Select "Inventory" in the right sidebar.

  4. Search for the device using the devices Serial Number or select it from the list of devices.

  5. Click the "Release from Organization" button.
